KNCLOBUPX IN CANTON DESPATCH NO. 233 of 2/12/39 to Governor, Hongkong.

It is hereby mutually agreed that the concluding

paragrah of Article 3 of the Temporary Agreement regarding

navigation of the Pearl River b certain British vessels

and visits to Hongkong by certain Japanese vessels, pending

the restoration of the Pearl River to normal navigation

initialled by Mr. Blunt and Mr. Okazaki on July 4th, 1939,

is amended to read as follows:

"Purther, it is agreed that irrespective of the

number of ships requested by the other part, the Japanese

authorities ill be entitled to acceptance by the British

authorities of requests for eight Japanese Government

chartered vessela in each direction in any period of 4

seeks and similarly the British authorities ill be

entitled to acceptance by the Japanese authorities of

requests for one British vessel in each direction in any

period of one week.

(NOTE. A visit under this agreement means one round

trip betreen Canton and Hongkong.
